Our HistoryFor nearly 100 years, Central Baptist Church has stood on the corner of Roy and Shields Streets in the Midway community of St. Paul. Central has a long track record of creating and sustaining quality programs that have enhanced and improved the neighborhood and served the entire community. Central Child Care began over 60 years ago as a drop-in program for moms at home. It developed into a front-runner preschool program, a drop-in day care, and eventually a full-day licensed child care program able to accept 86 children from age 6 weeks to grade 6. After School @ Central began in 1996 as a means to support the public education of our neighborhood children, where there is a documented achievement gap between white and non-white students. Providing 2 afternoons a week of consistant homework help, academic enrichment, computer access, and supportive relationships, we seek to build success and confidence into the lives of students who are at risk of failure. In 2004, Central Baptist Church made a bold move and established Central Community Services, Inc. (CCSI), a separate 501c3, enabling the church to more effectively address the needs of the community and access outside resources.
